College of Nautical Studies - 1984-1989

1984 saw the culmination of 40 years of effort to get the training of Navigators and Engineers back together on one site. This came about with a merger of the College Nautical Studies with the Southampton College of Higher Education (formerly the College of Technology) some parts of the engineering courses had to remain in Southampton until new buildings to house engineering at Warsash had been completed.

These new buildings and works were completed in 1986 and included as well as an engineering applications centre a new fire fighting model, a new pier head and a new library.

In 1988 Captain Phelan resigned as Director.
